The fire bursts awake
in the trees. It begins
by eating the green
from each leaf.
It swallows canopies
to skeletons. It quilts
the earth with corpses.
It is Autumn,
starving and cold,
a meandering
reddening
burn.

Beautifully written and I love your imagery
Thanks so much! A falling leaf managed to bap me on the head when I was speed-walking across the street, so I thought I’d better write a fall poem.
